Manchester United’s 2-1 victory away at Crystal Palace this evening felt like a big win for Jose Mourinho and his players.
They needed to prove that their 1-0 win over Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday – arguably the biggest result of Mourinho’s tenure so far – wasn’t merely a one-off or even a fluke.
Although Palace haven’t exactly been pulling up trees in recent weeks, they’d still scored six goals in their previous two matches while Selhurst Park is a notoriously hostile away ground.
United took the lead on the stoke of half-time thanks to a rather fortuitous goal from Paul Pogba. Replays suggested the Frenchman was offside when Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with the use of his arm, played the ball through.
James McArthur equalised with 25 minutes remaining but Ibrahimovic’s late winner – his 14th goal of the season – sealed the points for Mourinho’s side.

The Portuguese coach cut a delighted figure at the full-time whistle and celebrated by hugging his victorious players.
