Champions Real Madrid
Real Madrid have finished 2016 in style.
Having already won the 2016 Champions League, Los Blancos closed out the calendar year adding the FIFA Club World Cup to their trophy cabinet.
The victory, however, was far from smooth sailing, as Real needed extra time and a historic hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo to land their latest prize.
But should the Spaniards have been reduced to 10 men in the game?
How did Sergio Ramos stay on the field?
Sergio Ramos, was already on a booking from the 55th minute.
In the last few minutes of normal time, Ramos broke up a Kashima breakaway with a clear yellow card offence.
What transpired was disgraceful. The referee reached into his pocket for a good 10-20 seconds!
But, he didn’t pull out the yellow card, and Ramos was allowed to continue playing.
Cristiano Ronaldo & Sergio Ramos
After the match ended, TV cameras caught Cristiano Ronaldo chatting with Sergio Ramos.
The pair burst out laughing, and the Spanish press believe the team mates were joking about the non red card.
